GeneSeek founders bring home prestigious award

The founders of Neogen’s GeneSeek subsidiary took home a top prize last night.

Abraham Oommen and Daniel Pomp were awarded the 2012 Governor’s Bioscience award, which honors those who make a large contribution to bioscience in Nebraska.

GeneSeek was founded in 1998 to provide high throughput genetic screening, and gene discovery and characterization services for the dairy and swine industry. Neogen acquired the Lincoln, Neb.-based GeneSeek in April 2010. It is a global leader in farm animal DNA testing.

The USDA used GeneSeek to verify the origin of the first animal diagnosed with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (commonly known as mad cow disease) in the U.S.
