Court may not have power to hasten FSMA implementation – Food Safety News

A judge last week said she wasn’t sure the court could help speed up the implementation of the 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). She spoke during a hearing on a lawsuit filed in August against the U.S.Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the agency missing several deadlines for implementing the law.

In January, FDA published the first two proposed rules, both of which are still in their comment periods.

Those wishing to comment on a food traceability report now have an additional 90 days to do so.

The report analyzed two pilot projects mandated by FSMA and included recommendations for improving the programs.

The comment period is now open until July 3.
