Neogen partners with Companions for Heroes

Our nation’s military personnel and first responders give so much to us. Now it’s time for us to give back to them.

This quarter (June—August), a portion of our proceeds from pet food sales will go to benefit Companions for Heroes, a nonprofit group that pairs rescued companion animals with those who serve our nation.

Companions for Heroes rescues the animals from shelters, where they often face euthanasia, and give them to veterans, active duty military personnel and first responders free of charge. The goal? To help our nation’s heroes recover from psychological trauma they experienced during their service.

Companions for Heroes also aims to increase awareness of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury and the adoption of shelter and rescue animals.

The group was founded by U.S. Air Force veteran David Sharpe, who was diagnosed with PTSD after serving in Iraq. Sharpe’s adoption of a pit bull puppy, Cheyenne, helped alleviate the PTSD symptoms he has suffered since returning home. The experience spurred him to found Companions for Heroes to help others who face the same struggles he has endured.

Neogen looks forward to donating to Companions for Heroes and helping those who served and some of the millions of animals waiting for permanent homes.

“One of Neogen’s goals is giving back to the community. Throughout the year, our Pet Food Division has tried to select organizations that we feel have a positive impact on our community, specifically teaming people and animals, as our way of giving back,” said Neogen’s Victoria Minton. “We are all pet owners, most of us have rescued shelter animals, and we all have friends and family that have either served or currently are serving as members of the armed forces. The mission of Companions for Heroes really hit home for us.”
