Neogen customer, Southern States wins 2014 AFIA Feed Mill of the Year Award

afia-2014Southern States Cooperative’s feed mill in Park City, Kentucky, one of Neogen’s long-time milling and grain customers, has been recognized as the 2014 AFIA Feed Mill of the Year, an award that recognizes overall excellence in feed manufacturing operations where safety, quality, regulatory compliance, operating efficiencies and overall industry awareness of food safety are promoted.

Sponsored by the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) and Feedstuffs Newspaper, this marks the second win in three years for Southern States, and the fourth time in seven years that the company has taken home the prestigious award. With more than 1,200 retail stores in 23 states, Southern States is known as one of the nation’s largest agriculture supply companies, with more than 200,000 farmer-members and claimed the top spot out of a total of 90 companies in the competition.

“It is a pleasure working with staff members that strive to uphold such a high standard of excellence. This award is a true reflection of the dedication and diligence that my team not only meets, but exceeds each day,” Gary Huddleston, plant manager for Southern States, said to Feed and Grain Magazine.

Founded in 1923, Southern States has been a farmer-owned cooperative providing a wide variety of agriculture products and home supplies to the agricultural community and is one of only three plants to have won the contest multiple times since the award’s inception in 1985.

“For years, they have shown a standard of excellence that gives them an opportunity to win every year. They have a great crew, great leadership, and are always trying to do the right thing for their customers,” said Southern States Vice President of Feed Division, Jim Moore.
